Sail me there, Captain!

This is one of the places I want the Captain to sail us to, especially if we get that boat down in Florida that he likes, and we have to sail it through the Gulf and up the Tenn-Tom.

Anna Maria Island, Central West Coast of Florida

I'm thinkin' it may be three Texans once SASOB sees this post.

Fla is definitely an ocean boaters place to be. Despite all the hype about Californicate there is simply nothing comparable here. Some of our coastline is gorgeous but there really isn't any place to go, per se, except to Catalina Island, the Channel Islands, or Ensenada Mexico. If you are particularly adventurous you could sail to Cabo.

Fla, otoh, has billions of islands, the intracoastal waterway, proximity to other states, the carribean, the gulf, etc, etc, etc.

Plus, you can live on the water, which is virtually impossible in Ca.

And the water is warm. And there's all those Cuban girls, ah, I mean, Cuban food.

Yeah, I'm thinking there will be lots of places we can go down here, especially during the fall and early spring months. Summer gets a little sticky and miserable down in Florida, and then of course, there's hurricane season to watch out for. That really kicks up around mid to late August.

I do wish we had a boat with multiple salons below deck, so that we could take a group of 6 or 8 out for a longer trip. We could take 4 or 5 now, but not for anything longer than a weekend. It might get a little crowded after that, and then we'd end up killing each other like some horror movie.

That had crossed my mind already, but two's company, three's a crowd. ;-)

You were trying to think of a small business you could get into - how about something to do with boats - a charter boat, tour or fishing business? A friend of a friend of mine sells boats for a living (cabin cruisers) and also takes people out fishing in the Gulf. Of course, being on the water might lose its appeal, if it's turned into work.

A crew of three besides the first mate and myself is do-able in most cases, but a 30 ft. sailboat would be hard pressed to hold three texas-sized egos.
