He Said, She Said

Margaret Thatcher on power: Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren't."

Abraham Lincoln on character: "“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power."

I don't know who said this one, but it has always been a favorite.

"Adversity doesn't build character. It reveals it"

So...in light of those comments, instead of getting laid off, did you get a promotion?

Have a great day today, Chatelaine! (And you, too, Captain, where ever you are out there in the West!)

Chatelaine said...

No, nothing yet on the job front. I guess I'm trying to be positive though :)

You have a good day too, Janie!

Speaking of the Captain - what's he gonna do with that boat of his? Maybe he could sail it down south, thru the canal, and then up thru the Gulf. And then maybe even up the Mississippi. Quite a trip though.

We are keeping that boat! For now, it's going to stay in Oak Harbor, because our dream would be to winter in Mississippi and summer in Washington, and a boat is sort of like owning a vacation cabin in the mountains. But now that all depends on my job. If it stays the same, then I can do my work from the boat as long as I have an internet connection. But that could get blown out of the water now.

Worst case, he'd sell it up there and buy another one down here. Because transporting it would cost about as much as it would to buy one. Either way, we want a boat.

A lot of people here keep their boats on the coast, then bring them up the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway to Pickwick Marina during the hurricane season. The Captain is very worried by the pictures I sent him of people's boat-babies tossed up onto the Mississippi coastal highway this past season.

Oh, yeah, chica - thanks for following me!

You can put one of those gadgets on your blog and still be as quiet as you are, you know.

Lol! Ok, Janie-girl. I didn't quite realize what the following thing was all about. I usually just use Google Reader, but I wanted my picture up there with everyone else on your blog, so I clicked on it to see what it was all about.

Mine looks pitiful. You're my only follower :-/

There! Now, you have two.

Well, looks like most of my questions for the morning have been answered except one.

Where is Biscuit Boy? I see no comments, I get no email, I no see him on Facebook, I see no posts here at this blog, and he don't show up at TWC.

Make that three.

BTW, I can't recall the exact quote but Robert J Ringer once said that if someone tells you how honest they are, they usually aren't.

Thanks, Col Hogan :-)

The Captain's computer LCD has gone dark. The machine turns on, but the screen is blank. Next time he heads over to the boat side of the state, he plans to drop it off at an authorized Toshiba dealer near Seattle since it's still in warranty. There's not a warranty repair place near him. So the only way he's getting email is on his phone. But it's too hard to reply back using a cell phone keypad.

He's not the fastest texter in the west, you know, but I love him anyway :)

The Turtle, hisself? I haven't heard that name in years; I haven't read his books in years either. But he was pretty good - better than Harry Browne I thought at the time. You know, I think it's been 25 years since I read Restoring the American Dream - I might just have to dig it out and look at it again. If I can just find the time.

Now that I think of it - dang it, TWC - I wish you had mentioned and reminded me of Ringer yesterday. I could have celebrated New Years by digging up my copy of Looking Out For Number One and spending the day reading it. Probably would have been a more profitable way to celebrate. ;-)

Yes, SA, The Turtle. Sharp guy, excellent books. Ended up having to self-publish because nobody would take the book. Made hundreds of thousands more as a result.

The Captain's computer LCD has gone dark

Is that code for I buried him out back in the mulch pile the night we had the big fight? :-)

You're going to make me pick up the phone, aren't you?

You guys always know the cool writers. Makes me glad that the Captain isn't online these days. Otherwise that summer reading list he keeps after me about would have a couple more titles on it. That "Restoring the American Dream" sounds just like something he'd say I needed to read.

Sometimes a girl just wants a good ol' hearts and flowers romance. Politics gets me riled up and spoils the mood :)

That's because we're a couple of old fart libertarians who've been reading for 40 or 50 years. Well TWC is - I'm just a libertarian. ;-)

It's strange, we didn't realize what was happening or where it would end up.

Someone insulted me the other day by calling me a middle age drunk and I thought: Wait a minute, I'm not middle aged

Chatelaine said...

Ugh, I hate that word... "middle-aged". It's SO insulting and dismissive.

Lol! No, but the barbecue sure did have a unique flavor this time around :-)

Actually, his computer is just broken, which is probably a good thing, really. Because he has plenty of things to do with sorting through all the stuff in the house and getting it ready to sell.
