Invitations: done!

Today we ordered the wedding invitations. We're doing a very cute little design called "seal and sends". No envelopes and all that wasteful extra paper that adds on so much cost only to end up in everyone's trashcan, except mine and my mother's. You just fold them up and stick a seal on them. I ordered the nicer gold leaf seals, though, instead of the plain white one.

That's them in the picture. I love them! They have fall leaves on them. Fall and October are my most favorite times of year.

You know....we were very tempted to get married on Halloween, which is on a Saturday this year. But there were too many important SEC football games that day. No one would even give our little wedding a second thought when Ole Miss is playing Auburn, and Georgia is playing Florida. But a Halloween wedding sure would have been fun, and what a great anniversary it would make.

Years ago, a musician friend of mine was sequencing the Fleetwood Mac song Rhiannon when the old TV show The Munsters came on the TV.

It turns out that the two songs merged effortlessly.

The medley was a great crowd pleaser. It would have a perfect theme song for a Halloween wedding.

I love Rhiannon. I should have known you'd have the perfect Halloween wedding music, Cap.

I guess, if you've seen a weather report today, you can plainly see what's sitting over me and what's headed your way. The storm system will probably reach you by Sunday afternoon or evening. Hope it doesn't pick up any more strength.

Thanks, Janie! I think they'll really suit the atmosphere of the occasion.

Hey, football is a religion around here, Col Hogan.

Smartass! You finally decided to speak to me??? Snob. Where you been?

We've gotten some rain today, but I think it died down a whole lot from what y'all had. That looked pretty scary yesterday.

Besides - comments don't show up 'til three days later anyhow. (Someone doesn't spend as much time on her blog as she once did it seems.) ;-)

What didja do with TWC? I haven't seen any recent posts here from him either. 'Course, he may still be finishing up tax returns for clients; it's a busy time of year for him.

He's hanging out on Facebook a lot. I did set up a membership there, but I'm not digging it too much.

I had AT&T upgrade my dsl service to the next higher speed this afternoon. They said I probably wouldn't be up to full speed until Wednesday, but I swear it's already a bit faster. Your page loads a bit faster than it's been doing lately, and My Yahoo stuff downloads faster now, too. Or maybe it's just my imagination. Anyway my download speed is supposed to become double what it was; we'll see.

I'm not digging it too much.

Yeah, he sent me an invite to join FB, too, but I'm not much into social networking sites. I had a Myspace account for about a month and a half once before I decided I was just taking up bandwidth for nothing. As I told him, I already have about all the online public presence or exposure I want or care to risk as it is.

My site WAS loading slow lately. I noticed it too on my super fast DSL. It's better today, though. It might have been a Blogger issue.

You're gonna love faster DSL, though. I get all frustrated now when something doesn't load really fast. I've gotten spoiled.

TWC still loves all of ya, baby.

I hate my ISP more than Obama.

I wasn't too sure about FB at first, but it's kinda fun. Some people use it in lieu of a blog.

Course, there are SOME blogs that are more fun than FaceBook but they have been on sabbatical lately. That forces us to fraternize with the right wingers.

As an aside, I'd noticed that a lot of my H&R commentary had been reduced to drive byes. Drive byes works ok on FB.

Speaking of that, TWC hits are down by 10% since the lot of you left TWC in the dust. :-)

Hey, "I" haven't left you in the dust. I talk to you all the time!

As for my own blog, I don't know what's up with me. Every time I sit down to write, I think twice about it and think everything I have to say is so boring, and why would anyone care about reading it. I used to track my hits on Lone Chatelaine all the time, but I never do on this one.

The Captain will come back around again soon, I'm sure of it. He's got a lot going on right now with selling the house, selling the boat, moving here, dealing with some final paper and legal stuff from the accident, and healing. He's really gotten better the last couple of months. The winter was difficult, but he's coming out of the dark now. Physically, he's finally feeling like his old self. He really screwed up his knees and neck and had a lot of pain, but I think the warmer weather is helping that a lot.

And me. I think I help him too :)

Just let me get him here with me and get things back to normal for him. Before you know it he'll be talking our ears off online. First week of June, he's here to pretty much stay :)

You're gonna love faster DSL,

It's here finally! I can't say that it seems all that much faster. I've been using the snot out of TWC's speedtest link the last few days and my download speed has climbled from 1.32 Mb/s Monday afternoon to 2.59 Mb/s today, Thursday. I don't know what it actually was before Monday, I just know that it seemed to run faster after I put in a request for an upgrade. To tell the truth though, it doesn't seem any faster than it did when I first put this particular computer online two years ago. At the time I had noticed a real difference, but it seemed to have slowed down in the interim - probably from all the software updates and security patches, etc. Anyway, it's running pretty well now and I'm not having to pay any more than I was since I bought a bundled plan. Wonder what Comcast's 6 Mb/s is like? ;-)

ps: Thanks for the internet speedtest link, TWC.

Chatelaine said...

Ok, that's still not very fast. I've got Bellsouth's highest DSL speed, and mine is at 54.0 Mb/s right now. I really needed something that fast to do my work, and now I'm totally spoiled, and I don't have my company to pay for it anymore.

That's almost unbelievable - are sure it's 54.0 and not 5.40?

Chatelaine said...

I'm sure it said 54.0 when I viewed the status of the connection. Right now it only says 36.0 Mbps, but it does vary. Mornings are usually quicker, not sure why.

Here's a link to a screen shot of what I was looking at when I checked. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong thing, though.

Yes, that seems to bear out what you claim. Still hard to believe though. I went to Bell South's site earlier today to see what they had to offer in the way of speed. Their best was 6 Mb/s if I read it correctly.

Here's the link from TWC's site that I used to check my speed. Why not try that and see what you get? Sheesh even Comcast cable company here doesn't offer anything as fast as what you apparently have.

Chatelaine said...

Ok, that test thing said I only had 5.8, so I must be reading the wrong thing on my computer or something.

I rarely have any problems, though. I get songs and videos in a minute or so all the time.

Chatelaine said...

And I used to run video and audio conferencing all at the same time for my job all the time, and also ran software training on my screen that was shared onto other people's screens. That takes a bunch of bandwidth, and I never had a delay of more than a few seconds.

smartass sob said...

Now you have me perplexed. :-) Anyway, 5.8 (or 6)sounds a whole lot more realistic. ATT's Elite service offers that speed, but it costs more than I can afford or want to pay. That would be twice as fast as what I have now, but without a newer and faster computer I don't know that it would matter.

Thanks for re-checking.

Yup. I wish I did, too. Maybe TWC can explain the discrepancy - he knows alot more about this stuff than I do.

smartass sob said...

I think I may have figured out the discrepancy in your speed figures...maybe. The 36 Mb/s or 54Mb/s that your screen shot shows may be the speed of your wireless connection rather than the speed of your internet connection.

For an analogy: I connect to my dsl modem with an ethernet cable from the back of my desktop. If I go to Start; Settings; Network Connections, it shows I'm connected at 100 Mb/s. But that is only between the computer's network card and the dsl modem - being a cable the speed is always 100 Mb/s. However, the speed between my dsl modem and the nearest ATT server (in Houston) is only about 2.6 Mb/s.

Likewise you must have a dsl modem or wireless gateway device that is connected by cable (of some kind) to Bell South's server. The speed between that and the server is 5.8 Mb/s - or whatever. But the transmission speed of your wireless connection from your computer to the gateway or modem is much faster - 36 or even 54 Mb/s. Apparently the speed can vary depending on conditions.

Does any of that make any sense? TWC, does that sound right to you?
