Take Your Vitamin D!

Excellent article here about the effects of vitamin D, how it boosts the immune system for colds and flu, and how we now get much less of it through natural ways since we're not in the sun as much as we used to be.

Epidemic Influenza and Vitamin D

I take a lot of vitamins, about 12 different supplements a day. I always take them with food, though, to get the best absorption.

- Regular multi vitamin
- Calcum
- Iron
- Super B-complex
- extra C
- extra D
- Zinc
- Potassium
- Omega 3 fish oil
- Evening primrose oil
- Glucosamine with chondroitin
- Melatonin when I have trouble sleeping

Two books that changed (and are still changing) my approach to health and wellness, and my views on the medical business:

The Sexy Years - by Suzanne Somers

Breakthrough - by Suzanne Somers

I've read every book she's ever published. I always figured she was nothing more than a fluff piece, but when one of my best friends was diagnosed with breast cancer, she became very interested in natural health and recommended that I read The Sexy Years when I ended up having a couple of biopsies myself in 2006. Turns out that Ms. Somers knows her stuff about hormones, aging, eating healthy, and how the government, FDA, lobbyists, and pharmaceutical companies are totally steering us toward what makes them the most money as opposed to what really keeps us healthy.

Hey, Wine Commonsewer - What kind of vitamins are in red wine? I'm betting you already know and have proof that it's healthy ;-)

That's what it's about. Being sexier at 40, 50 and 60, than you were at 20. She looks fantastic!

Yeah, I take a lot of vitamins, too. My regimen is fairly similar to yours. I also take ginko biloba....a friend told me it helps your mind and memory, so I've been trying it.

I find it easier to remember names now, something I've always had trouble with. I don't know if it's the GB or just that I'm paying more attention.

I saw Somers on O'Reilly a couple of weeks ago. She does look good....

I've heard about ginko biloba, Col. Hogan, but I haven't added it yet. I think the Captain takes it, though.

I have a very old magazine with a picture of Suzanne Sommers posing topless that predates her fame and fortune. I think it was an ad for a ski resort or something.

Hadn't thought of that in years.

Suzanne Sommers was never my kind of blond chick, though I'll grant you she is pretty.

Sheryl Tiegs? Now, in her prime, that girl was pretty enough to make a rabbit chase a hungry hound.

Dated a girl named Debbie that looked a little like her for a while. Debbie forgot to mention that she was married and her husband worked for Ma Bell. Didn't trust his old lady much so he tapped the phone. Paid me a visit one rainy dank morning.

Thanks for the shout out Ms Chatalaina.

It isn't so much the vitamins that exist in red wine as it is the naturally occurring substances such as flavinoids and resveritral. Red wine has lots of iron. Red wine lowers bad cholesterol and bumps good cholesterol. It inhibits the formation of blood platelets, which are the precursors to blood clots that can cause strokes. It helps purge free radicals. It has anti-inflammatory properties, which helps aches and pains. It is a powerful anti-oxidant. And, when, properly administered it has the remarkable effect of altering most chicks perception in a way that causes them to perceive you as wittier, smarter, thinner, and better looking than you actually are.

I knew you'd have the scoop on red wine health benefits. Even though I've read your posts about it, I had forgotten the part about red wine having iron. That's good for women. Altering our judgment?....not so much.

I remember my brother digging Sheryl Tiegs too.

I think your life could be a TV show, TWC. You've got a ton of stories about wine, women, and getting your ass into trouble.
