Tired

I still don't feel very good, but I'm tired of feeling tired, so I'm making myself get up and get out.

So here's the deal on my job. My last day is this Friday, March 13th. I told my director I'd like to leave now, rather than fake it for the rest of the month. Screw 'em. I'll get 8 weeks pay as a base severance package, then two weeks pay for every year I've been there, and that will take me through November. I get to keep my insurance benefits too. I don't know how they call that cutting costs, since the only thing they are really not going to have is my actual work contribution, but whatever. I'm trying to forget about it. So for now I'm not going to do anything. I'm just going to coast and plan my wedding for a few months.

I don't really have any work to do this week, other than packing up my computers, training equipment, etc, and sending it to the corporate office.

I just can't believe I don't work there anymore. After 14 years of being so actively involved through mergers and product launches, when I see the commercials on TV now, I just can't process that it's not my company anymore. It really makes me sad. I feel so rejected and brushed under the rug. I was kind of proud of my job and my tenure there.

*sigh*

I really feel like crap.

Part of that is leftovers from the stomache bug, I'd bet. Combined with losing your job it's a safe bet you are depressed. (Physical and mental depression are both still depression. The best cure I know of, if you can make yourself do it, is physical activity of some kind - maybe some spring cleaning or something else simple.

Losing a job at a company where you've worked for so long is like having a marriage or other relationship come to an end. It can be a bit traumatic. Anyway, you'll pull through. Hope you get to feeling bette soon.

I'm sure you're right, SaSob. I did make myself get out a bit today. I visited my parents and did a quick trip to the store. It was really hot in there and I thought I might faint for a moment, but I made it home alright. And I did a bit of cleaning.

I'll be better when the Captain gets here Wednesday night. I miss him.

Or, you can have some chick you haven't seen for thirty years come over for wine & dinner. It works like this: you smile inside while basking in the exact moment when she realizes how very foolish she was all those years ago.....

On another note, LC, we all hope you're feeling better soon. Understand about taking a walk sooner rather than later. Your ex-employer seems to be pound foolish as they say. Or maybe they figure it's going to be a long bumpy ride.

At least you have income until the wedding. Course by then your paycheck will barely buy a loaf of bread and a couple of peaches.

Back in 1992, I was laid off from a job I'd held for....14 years. I still think it was the best job I ever had. They had to do something, though, because there was a recession in the construction industry. They laid off fully half of their staff.

It was a sickening feeling, to realize I was out of a job for the first time in my life--prior to working for this outfit, I had floated from one job to a better one.

Then, I realized that there were a whole helluva lot of things I didn't have to worry about any more. That helped. That really helped.
