Those Rednecks Don't Ski

I have a t-shirt with that picture on it. It's sort of a local cultural icon.

From the National Weather Service....

"SUNSHINE AND FEW CLOUDS. HOT. HIGH 99F. WINDS WSW 5 TO 10 MPH. A HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING. A STRONG UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL BRING HOT TEMPERATURES TO THE MID-SOUTH TODAY. GULF HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S TO PRODUCE A HEAT INDEX OF 105 TO 108 DEGREES THIS AFTERNOON."

I woke up in a scowly mood this morning. Bah humbug on everything. I hate summer. Every time I go out the door I'm attacked by kamikaze mosquitoes with a six foot wingspan. I've got nine mosquito bites on my legs, I'm itching, it's hot as hell, the sun's glare makes my eyes and head hurt, my hair is like a sauna on my neck, so I'll have a perpetual ponytail for the next three months, and getting dressed up to go anywhere is useless because all clothes are uncomfortable and look like a wrinkled, damp wad of dish towels five minutes after going out the door.

It's even too hot to drink coffee. I'm having an RC for breakfast.

I'm so ready for October.

Now, we know why coke is a common southern breakfast drink.

Uh-huh...like my momma says, "Huuuney, what kinda co-cola you waaant?"

Ultra southern accent and dripping with moonlight and magnolias :)

You really shouldn't drink coffee when it's hot like this, if you are going to be outside in the heat at all. The caffeine makes it difficult for your body to cool itself. Of course, if you are like me, you have to have a cup or two in the morning.

As for cola, I think I'd rather have a big glass of southern-style iced tea. By that I mean pre-sweetened in the pitcher. There's nothing more refreshing in the summertime.

I've always got some iced tea in the fridge, Smartass. I hardly ever had cokes until the Captain came into the picture. I only had the RC because I was making a cake with it last week. I love iced tea, though. It's just too hot for coffee now.
