Wake Up Screaming

I hate it when that happens. Scared the be-jezuz out of the Captain last night. It was about 3:30am. Never did get back to sleep very good, therefore the Captain didn't either. He said the scream was blood curdling. I think I remember hearing myself, but I don't know.

I can't even say for sure what the nightmare was about, but it was some weird, freaky stuff. Three little starved and abused kids that I was trying to help. I think they were disfigured or something... Some really bad guys that showed up trying to take them from me.... Horrible imagery with my dog... The Captain's face when I turned to him for help, and then some sort of electrical current that swallowed up his body, and he disappeared from my sight. Felt like I was in that movie The Cell.

Sounds like it was nothing now in the early morning light, but I was really wigged out and shaking last night. Had to keep the light on a while.

I sometimes have very vivid dreams. Never nightmares, though. They often make stories, and I can remember them after I wake.

Nightmares are only good if you can turn one into a best selling novel.

I remain convinced this is King's source.

The nightmares don't frighten me like they once did, I'm mostly a detached observer anymore. Or the guy who dispatches bloody vengeance with cold indifference.

Last Sunday afternoon though, I drifted off on the couch only to find myself screaming and begging for someone, anyone, to please wake me up. Course, they couldn't hear me so I suffered alone. Such is the nature of the horror sometimes.

You, Ms. LC, have my sympathies.

You guys need to borrow my magic spoon. When I was little, about six years old, I used to have nightmares to the point I was afraid to go to sleep. It so happened that we had an odd, mismatched teaspoon in our collection of tableware, so it was special. My mother told me if I were to put that spoon under my pillow at bedtime that it would keep the bad dreams away. I did so and lo and behold, it worked! The power of suggestion is a hell of a thing - 'specially with a little kid.

LC, sounds to me as though you have a deep-seated fear, insecurity or anxiety about something in your past, present, or future life, but just what that would be I couldn't say.

I forgot to say...

TWC? Your problem stems from "borrowing" too many oranges. ;-)

Twc, that makes me sad. I hate that you were alone :-(

I don't wake up screaming very often, only once a year or so. But I'd have really lost my mind if I had been alone the other night. I'm so glad it happened while the Captain is here.

Col Hogan, I don't think I could stand to relive my nightmares by writing them out. I'd probably keep having them, if I did that.

My regular dreams do tend to be vivid, if a bit odd. I used to not dream much, but I've been dreaming a lot lately. Not always scary, but just weird.

Smartass, I have three things that upset me to no end.

- bugs
- children and animals being hurt
- being abandoned or totally alone

That dream had nearly every single one of those aspects. I think I'm having some issues or fears of something happening to the Captain and being left alone again.

Thanks LC.

I know why my sister is crazed. She has the dreams too but she thinks they are real. Or at least that they symbolize something that is real.

SA, you do have a point with the spoon, but it never worked for me. The road grader still bore down on my little paralyzed body. :-0

I used a similar technique with the kids in that I would draw the pain out of their bodies with my magic fingertips. It was remarkably effective.

I've lost my touch as they've gotten bigger, but still, there is some marginal relief.
